Joan Hansen's painting, "Nestled in the Harbor," captures a vibrant coastal scene where colorful fishing boats are moored in the harbor after a long day on the water. The afternoon sunlight casts a warm glow on the old three-story yellow mill, while charming red buildings hug the shore. Gently rippling water creates a continuously shifting abstract reflection that mirrors the scene. Beyond the shore lush green sunlit mountains extend into the distance forming a comfortable shelter for the homes in the hills.
Although this harbor could be located in several places, Joan discovered it in Ulsteinvik, Norway. She and her mom had gone to Norway to visit relatives. On the way back to the airport she asked her cousin if he would please pull over so she could snap a few pictures of this beautiful scene. She hopped out of the car and in five minutes she had a few pictures to remember this area. She says, "You never know when you are going to capture a gem!"
