Summer Breeze by Joan Hansen

Summer Breeze is an impressionistic watercolor painting which was started from an abstract wash of paint. After the first layer dried, the artist "found" the shapes of the flowers in the designs that were created naturally. The flowers were defined by painting the negative spaces around them and then each petal was created with deeper values of the initial wash of color.

This painting, along with Summer Radiance, were the first images to be licensed to a publishing company for posters. The original painting was created with transparent watercolor.
