Summer Radiance by Joan Hansen

Summer Radiance is an impressionistic watercolor painting which was started from an abstract wash of color. After the first layer dried, the artist "found" the shapes of the flowers and refined them by painting the negative spaces around them. Then each petal was created with deeper values of the initial wash of color.

This painting, along with Summer Breeze, were the first images to be licensed to a publishing company for posters. The original painting was created with transparent watercolor, and it is in the artist's collection.
